Fatherhood and football: Reeve Frosler’s ‘silver lining’ in Chiefs injury woes

Kaizer Chiefs defender Reeve Frosler has opened up about the personal blessing that eased the frustration of his long-term injury absence, revealing how family life helped him navigate a difficult spell on the sidelines.

The 28-year-old made a triumphant return to the pitch last Wednesday, playing a pivotal role in Amakhosi’s 4-1 dismantling of Magesi FC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium. It was Frosler’s first taste of competitive action since October 2025, following a persistent struggle with injuries that had limited him to just seven appearances this campaign.

The Perfect Return For Frosler at Chiefs

Coming on as a second-half substitute for Thabiso Monyane—who has largely held down the right-back spot since his move from Orlando Pirates last July—Frosler wasted no time reminding the Naturena faithful of his quality.

The former Bidvest Wits man provided two pinpoint assists for Mduduzi Shabalala and Khanyisa Mayo, adding extra gloss to a scoreline that already featured first-half goals from Flavio Silva and Wandile Duba.

A Blessing in Disguise

While the physical toll of being “out of sight” was mentally taxing, Frosler admits the timing of his injury allowed him to play a crucial role at home during his wife’s pregnancy.

“Being out injured is no fun for any player, and I’m no different,” Frosler explained. “It was difficult from that point of view, but the setback turned out to be good timing because my wife and I were expecting our second-born. Being at home, I could help her around the house.”

Despite the “nightmare” of missing out on the matchday squad, the versatile defender says being present for the arrival of his second child provided a perspective that football alone couldn’t offer.

Frosler’s return provides a massive boost for Chiefs as they enter the business end of the Betway Premiership. With the club currently fighting to consolidate third place and secure a return to CAF continental football, his experience and delivery from wide areas will be invaluable.

Reflecting on his impact against Magesi, Frosler remained humble about his two-assist cameo.

“It is always nice to make a contribution. The good first-half performance of the team made it easy for me to come in. We were two goals up already and playing on the front foot,” he added.
