Karl Etta Eyong: Levante forward responds to criticism over goal drought

Cameroonian centre-forward Karl Etta Eyong has formally responded to the growing criticism regarding his lacklustre performances and extended goal drought this season.

The 22-year-old Levante attacker has managed just six goals across 30 La Liga appearances, a scoring rate that has inevitably raised serious questions about his clinical output and overall finishing ability.

With only four matches remaining before the curtain falls on this La Liga campaign, Levante find themselves languishing in 17th place on the log with 33 points, currently trailing safety by four points.

Karl Etta Eyong stated, “It is perfectly normal to be criticised in this profession. Personally, I try to draw my inner strength from those comments.

“It hurts, of course, but I use it as a tool to learn. These are the types of challenges that will surface very often whenever I do not score.

“Therefore, I try to adapt to the current situation and continue learning,” he explained during a Media Conference Liga session.

Etta Eyong originally joined Levante from Villarreal in a transfer deal worth a total of €4.5 million, having previously developed through the youth structures at Cadiz CF.

After rising through the Cameroon Under-23 ranks, Eyong has already earned eight senior caps and scored two goals for the Indomitable Lions’ national team.

He was involved in four matches and scored one goal for Cameroon during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations held recently in Morocco.

The Indomitable Lions, however, failed to progress deep into the competition, exiting the tournament at the quarter-final stage after suffering a 2-0 defeat against the hosts, Morocco.

The talented young attacker is widely expected to depart Levante should the club eventually be relegated to the Spanish second tier at the end of this season.
