Young Africans (Yanga SC) coach Miloud Hamdi has revealed his intentions to guide the team to a domestic double – winning the Mainland Premier League and CRDB Federation Cup.
The Citizens are currently top of the 16-team league table with 73 points from 27 matches, four more than second-placed side and rivals Simba SC. They are also in the domestic cup final after defeating JKT Tanzania 2-0 in the semi-finals.
“We are happy to head into the break leading the league standings, and we’re also in the final of the Federation Cup,” said Hamdi, as quoted by the Guardian. “But I must say, our job is not done yet. The last matches are very important, and we must avoid mistakes.
“The fate of defending the Premier League title is in our hands. If we remain focused and error-free, we will be champions. It was also crucial to win the match against JKT Tanzania and qualify for the FA Cup final. Now we have another opportunity to defend the Federation Cup title. We have two big targets ahead, and we must finish the season strong.”
Hamdi added: “We know what’s at stake. We’ve worked hard to get to this point, and now it’s about focus and execution. We want to give our fans more reasons to celebrate.”
Yanga’s next fixture is scheduled for June 18, when they take on Tanzania Prisons at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya. This will be their penultimate Premier League match of the season, with another league match and the Federation Cup final still to come.
