UPL: “We must win to close the gap” – Wasswa Bbosa sets tone for Kitara’s defining SC Villa clash

With the title race tightening and the finish line in sight, Kitara FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa has made his intentions unmistakably clear ahead of Thursday’s crucial StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) showdown against SC Villa at Royals Park, Butema.

The two sides head into the 4pm encounter level on 51 points, separated only by goal difference in Villa’s favour, adding extra weight to what is already a high-stakes fixture.

For Kitara, who sit eight points behind leaders Vipers SC, anything less than victory could significantly dent their fading title hopes.

“This game is crucial for us because both teams are tied on points, but our target is clear: to win and close the gap at the top,” Bbosa emphasized, underlining the urgency within his camp. “We learned from our loss away, and we are set. We expect to give our fans a positive result.”

Kitara return home with renewed belief following a hard-earned 2-1 victory over Lugazi FC last weekend, a result that halted a brief dip in form and reignited momentum at a critical stage of the campaign.

Their impressive record at Royals Park, where they remain unbeaten this season, further strengthens their confidence heading into this clash.

However, SC Villa arrive as a formidable opponent, enjoying a strong run of five matches without defeat, including four wins.

Their narrow 1-0 victory over Kitara in the reverse fixture at Kadiba still lingers, adding another layer of motivation for the hosts seeking redemption on home turf.

Victory for the Royals, combined with a slip from Vipers at KCCA FC on Wednesday could cut the gap at the summit to five points and breathe fresh life into the title race heading into the final stretch.

Forward Shaban Muhammad will be one to watch after netting his first goal for the club against Lugazi and he will be keen to build on that momentum against a Villa side known for its defensive discipline.

On the team front, Bbosa has the luxury of a fully fit squad with no new injury concerns, giving him the freedom to field his strongest possible XI for what could prove to be a season-defining encounter.
