Khuliso Mudau demands Sundowns response after ‘unlike us’ draw streak

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Khuliso Mudau has admitted it is “unlike” the reigning champions to drop points in successive matches as they look to regain their grip on the Betway Premiership title race tonight.

The Brazilians travel to Limpopo this evening for a high-stakes encounter against Polokwane City FC at the Seshego Stadium, desperate to snap a two-match winless streak that has seen their lead at the summit evaporate. After a 1-1 stalemate with Stellenbosch FC and a frustrating goalless draw against Richards Bay, Masandawana find themselves in the unusual position of being the hunters rather than the hunted.

Despite the recent blip, Sundowns remain just one point behind log leaders Orlando Pirates with a crucial game in hand. However, with only five matches remaining in the campaign, the margin for error has vanished.

‘No reservations’ – Mudau

Speaking ahead of the 19:30 kick-off, the Bafana Bafana international was candid about the club’s current form, insisting that the standards at Chloorkop demand an immediate response.

“It’s very important [to win] because we played two draws in a row. It’s unlike us,” Mudau conceded. “There are no reservations at Sundowns; our goal is to win every match. We are not putting ourselves under pressure because it’s important in a situation like this to focus on ourselves.”

The fixture presents a unique challenge, with Sundowns set to face Polokwane City twice in quick succession. While tonight’s clash takes place in Limpopo, the return leg at Loftus Versfeld looms large.

“Facing them twice—home and away—presents its own set of challenges,” Mudau added. “While they have the home advantage tonight, they still have to come to Loftus. We intend to make both fixtures extremely difficult for them.”

The Title Race Tightens

While the outside noise regarding their recent dip in form continues to grow, Mudau insists the squad remains grounded. The defender emphasized that the priority is restoring happiness to a fan base that has grown accustomed to relentless winning.

“I believe everyone is ready. It’s going to be a tough one, but we have to go there and make sure that we make ourselves happy, as well as our supporters and families back home.”

For a side that has dominated South African football for a decade, tonight isn’t just about three points—it’s about re-establishing the aura of invincibility that has defined the Masandawana era.
