Kaizer Chiefs defender Thabiso Monyane has warned his teammates against “getting carried away” by their current purple patch as the Soweto giants look to cement their continental credentials tonight.
Kaizer Chiefs travel to the City of Roses to face Siwelele FC at the Free State Stadium, buoyed by a formidable seven-match unbeaten run. Under the lights in Bloemfontein, Chiefs have the opportunity to turn their recent momentum into a definitive surge for a top-three finish—a result that would secure a return to the CAF inter-club stage next season.
However, despite the optimism surrounding Naturena following their 1-1 Soweto Derby draw against Orlando Pirates, Monyane is determined to ensure that standards do not slip against an 11th-placed Siwelele side desperate to snap a four-match winless streak.
“We are not expecting an easy game and do not underestimate any opponents; we go out there and give it our best every time,” Monyane insisted ahead of the 19:30 kick-off.
The right-back emphasized that while the Derby remains the fixture of the season for many, the trip to Bloemfontein carries equal weight in the broader context of the club’s ambitions.
“We have just played the Derby, but this is an equally important game. We have analysed them and have planned accordingly, and now we must go and execute it well again.”
The turnaround in form—consisting of five wins and two draws—has provided a much-needed reprieve for a technical team that was under fire from a demanding fan base just weeks ago. The “City of Roses” has often been a graveyard for the ambitions of visiting giants, and Monyane is well aware that Siwelele’s recent struggles make them a “dangerous” proposition.
“We are in the final stretch of the season, and it’s important for us to keep going,” Monyane added. “We have some good momentum going at the moment; the team is doing well, and spirits are high, without getting carried away.”
For a club of Kaizer Chiefs’ stature, the goal is simple: maintain the gap, silence the doubters, and ensure the resurgence isn’t derailed by an upset in the heart of the Free State.
“We take each game as it comes,” Monyane concluded. “We aim to finish on a high and make our supporters happy.”
