Zamalek took a major step toward securing the Nile Egyptian League title after claiming a vital 1-0 victory over Smouha SC on Tuesday evening in the sixth round of the title phase.
The decisive encounter at Borg El Arab Stadium saw Palestinian forward Oday Dabbagh emerge as the hero, scoring the only goal of the match in the 62nd minute.
Dabbagh’s winner came through a header after an excellent cross from Juan Bezerra, who had been introduced at halftime as a substitute for Nasser Mansi.
Bezerra made a wonderful impact with his creative contribution, but his night was cut short when he was forced off injured in the 68th minute, with Mohamed El Sayed replacing him.
The victory lifts Zamalek to 53 points, allowing them to move clear at the top of the title phase standings after Pyramids FC dropped points in a draw against Ceramica Cleopatra FC.
With just one round remaining, Zamalek are now on the verge of clinching the league title, with their final decisive fixture set against Ceramica Cleopatra.
The White Knights now stand just one step away from completing a successful domestic campaign and reclaiming league supremacy.
