Süper Lig: Marius sparks Samsunspor comeback; Ali Sowe wins it late for Rizespor

Monday’s action from the Turkish Süper Lig saw midtable clubs battling it out for position with Samsunspor’s Chadian striker Marius Mouandilmandji and Çaykur Rizespor forward Ali Sowe the heroes of the day.

Gambian striker Sowe’s late winner for Rizespor will not win the Puskas Award but his determination bundled the ball over the goal line in the 81st minute to complete a spectacular 2-1 comeback victory.

Mohamed Bayo put visitors Gaziantep ahead in the first half and it appeared that they might hold on for a clean sheet. However, Qazim Laçi’s excellent volley leveled the match in the 79th minute to set the stage for Sowe’s big moment.

Less than two minutes later, Halil Dervişoğlu’s shot attempt deflected into the path of the Gambian whose first touch went into goalkeeper Zafer Gorgen. The keeper failed to collect the ball cleanly and Sowe successfully challenged for the ball, leaving both players falling to the ground as the ball bounced in for a crucial winner.

Meanwhile, Marius was the one who inspired the comeback in Samsunspor’s case. Also falling behind in the first half to hosts Eyüpspor, the Chadian finished from Logi Tomasson’s cross to level the match before Afonso Sousa won it late for the visitors.

While his league form has suffered this season, Marius made full use after getting the start on Monday and continues to perform well in the UEFA Conference League and domestic cup for his club. He has 19 goals in all competitions this season, including 6 in the league.
