Salah: Slot delivers injury update ahead of Chelsea clash

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah will not be available to face Chelsea in a Premier League fixture at Anfield on Saturday.

Salah missed last weekend’s trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United due to the injury that he suffered against Crystal Palace.

He picked an injury during Liverpool’s game against Crystal Palace. Speaking ahead of the Chelsea game, Slot confirmed Salah is yet to return to training but could be available before the season concludes.

‘Salah has not trained with us’

“Alisson not yet, doesn’t train with us yet but very close to,” said Slot as quoted by Liverpool website. “Mo [has] also not trained with us yet but is also, like Ali, getting very, very, very close to training with us.”

Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season, bringing a close to his nine-year tenure at Anfield.

The club and the 33-year-old forward reached an agreement to cut short his contract, with Salah confirming in March 2026 he would be leaving as a free agent.

Salah will be big miss for Liverpool

Meanwhile, Robbie Fowler believes Salah will leave Liverpool as one of the greatest ever and could be a huge miss for the club.

“I mean he’s been an absolutely superb player for Liverpool, I’ve met him on a few occasions and he’s a wonderful man,” Fowler told ITV Racing at Chester Races.

“I mean what he has brought to the football club has been extraordinary. I think his goals, his games, his performances have all been extraordinary and he will be a big miss.

“Not only is he one of Liverpool’s greatest players, and not even in just the Premier League era, I am talking about Liverpool in the years gone by as well, I think he has been one of the Premier League’s greatest as well.

“So, he will be a big miss for Liverpool and a big miss for the Premier League as well. So, I am sad to see him go, but unfortunately it happens when we get a little bit older, doesn’t it?”

Salah has scored 257 goals – the third-most in club history – alongside 119 assists, lifting two Premier League titles and the European Cup among nine trophies.

So far this season, he has scored 12 goals and registered nine assists in 39 games across all competitions.
