Zimbabwe: ‘Scottland reluctantly facing Dynamos FC’ – Mapeza

Zimbabwe’s Scottland FC coach Norma Mapeza has explained why he is uncomfortable for his team to face in-form Dynamos FC on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.

Scottland FC coach Norman Mapeza insists that he could have preferred to meet Dynamos on Sunday, 26 April 2026, in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) duel.

Mapeza: Scottland needed to recuperate

The former Warriors gaffer said his wards needed enough time off to recover from the physical demands involved in last Sunday’s Independence Cup match against Highlanders FC. The Castle Lager PSL holders won the game 1-0 to lift the cup.

“I am happy that we managed to win a trophy,” Mapeza said. “It is a massive morale booster ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Dynamos.”

The former FC Platinum handler said he was aware of the threat that the Harare-based opponents will pose on the holders, citing their unbeaten Castle Lager PSL run as an indicator of their pedigree.

“We are playing a very good team. If you look, in the seven matches, they haven’t lost. It really shows their quality. They look more organised. They haven’t been conceding, so we are ready for the challenges we will face,” he said.

“If you look at the way they have started the season, they look very organized and very much changed. I know the challenges we will face. I could have preferred to play the game on Sunday so that we could recuperate, but that is how the fixtures are so we are ready.”

Meeting between Billiat and Stanley Billiat

Scottland have gradually fallen down the standings, from being second to now fifth place with 13 points from seven games. A goal aggregate separates them from the fourth-positioned Dynamos who are also called DeMbare.

The match will see Malawian attacker Stanley Billiat, who signed for Dynamos recently, facing the more popular Khama Billiat for the defending champions, whose array of stars include Musona brothers, Knowledge and Walter.

Victory over DeMbare would see Mapeza’s side join third-ranked Ngezi Platinum Stars FC on par on points as they have played one game more.
