Brayan Léon scored both goals in the 2-0 aggregate victory, adding to his total on Saturday by finishing from short range after EST goalkeeper Bechir Ben Saïd saved the Colombian’s first half penalty kick.
The big-money acquisition from South America was essential for Masandawana once again. After Ben Saïd took a serious risk by attempting to control right back Ibrahima Keïta’s throw-in in the 32nd minute, the poacher pounced and poked the ball away before the goalkeeper fouled him in a rushed attempt to clear.
There was little cause for concern during the second leg for the home supporters. After securing a crucial 1-0 first leg victory in Tunis, all the pressure was on the visitors from the Tunisian capital to score and an attack weakened by multiple injuries created little danger for Sundowns keeper Ronwen Williams.
The closest the Blood and Gold came to finding a goal was in the 41st minute when Houssem Tka’s cross ricocheted off striker Florian Danho’s thigh before rattling the crossbar of Williams’ goal.
From then on, it was a case of managing the game for the hosts whose defense was too formidable to break down. EST failed to put a single shot on target in the second half as the South African giants secured a second consecutive final appearance after falling to Egypt’s Pyramids FC at the final stage last season.
Later on Saturday, Sundowns’ final opponent will be known when RS Berkane hosts fellow Moroccan club AS FAR Rabat for their second leg clash. AS FAR won the first leg 2-0 at home and will look to secure their advancement to the final, which commences with the first leg in Pretoria on May 15.
