Uganda Premier League: KCCA stay in touch, UPDF surge while Vipers hold firm

Uganda Premier League leaders Vipers SC bounced back to winning ways with a composed 2-0 victory over Buhimba United at Butema, tightening their grip on the summit.

Goals from Hillary Mukundane and Karim Watambala ensured maximum points, with the latter sealing the win from the penalty spot after the break.

Close behind, KCCA FC kept the pressure on the leaders thanks to Sammy Ssebaduka’s late strike in a narrow 1-0 win over Entebbe UPPC.

The Kasasiro Boys secured back-to-back victories and clean sheets to remain within touching distance of top spot.

In Njeru, UPDF FC delivered the standout performance of the day, thrashing BUL FC 5-2 to boost their survival hopes. Emmanuel Ocen’s brace, alongside goals from Ivan Bogere, Faridi Rashid, and Enrique Lubwama, powered the army side to a crucial win that lifts them clear of immediate relegation danger.

Elsewhere, concerns overshadowed football at Nakivubo where NEC FC and Express FC played out a goalless draw. NEC forward Richard Basangwa was rushed to hospital after a serious late collision, with the incident raising questions over matchday medical preparedness.

Despite the stalemate, NEC extended their impressive unbeaten and defensive run.

In Kamwokya, Police FC came from behind to edge URA FC 2-1. Early pressure from URA paid off through Joshua Lubwama, but Police responded with goals from Lawrence Tezikya and Bedia Ikamba to seal another comeback victory and climb up the table.

With the title race tightening and the relegation fight intensifying, Matchday 24 delivered both decisive results and moments of concern across the league.
