African Stars back in Champions League, clinch Namibia league title

African Stars Football Club are back in the CAF Champions League after securing the Namibian Premier Football League (NPFL) title.

The Windhoek-based football heavyweights overpowered FC Ongos with a 2-0 victory on Sunday to retain the 2025-2026 NPFL title for the fourth season on the trot.

The domestic league title guarantees the Namibian giants a return to the CAF Champions League action for the 2027 season.

During the decisive game, defender Vevangapi Mbuuende scored in the 12th minute, rising above his markers to glance a ball from a freekick into the net and hand the Red Army the lead at Independence Stadium.

How African Stars FC sealed the victory

Thereafter, captain Ronald Ketjijere cushioned the lead two minutes into added time to seal the maximum points and defend the title of the league on the final day of the season.

African Stars have now extended their haul of trophies to nine, making them one of the most successful clubs in the Namibian Premiership.

African Stars FC finished at the summit with 58 points from 30 matches to secure their fourth consecutive league title.

Title contenders Eeshoke Chula Chula pushed the race down to the wire, finishing just one point behind on 57 after their 1-0 victory over Bucks Buccaneers at Oshakati Independence Stadium on Sunday.
