APR FC suffer lopsided defeat at the hands of Rwanda Premier League leaders Al Hilal

Al Hilal Omdurman are well on their way to finishing top of the Rwanda Premier League (BK Pro League) following Thursday’s decisive 4-0 victory over defending champions APR FC.

Madické Kane opened the scoring with a curled free kick just after the ten-minute mark before a second half onslaught confirmed victory for the Sudanese champions, who continue to show their class this season as guests in the Rwandan top flight.

Not that APR did not have their opportunities. Pacifique Ngabonziza’s perfect cross from the right flank was wasted by Gilbert Mugisha, with the Rwanda national team attacker putting his finish over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

And the champions paid dearly for it when Hilal confirmed a 2-0 halftime lead courtesy of Ahmed Salem’s deflected effort, which left goalkeeper Adolphe Hakizimana helpless.

Al Hilal’s Sudanese national team veterans confirmed the lopsided victory in the second half with goals from Abdel Raouf and captain Mohamed Abdel Rahman. The Blue Wave have now won seven of their last eight matches in the league, remaining undefeated during this stretch since being eliminated from the CAF Champions League in heartbreaking fashion at the quarterfinal stage by RS Berkane.

Now they are eleven points clear of APR, with Sudanese rivals Al Merrikh now in second place following a dominant victory of their own with a 4-1 result over relegation fighters Etincelles earlier on Thursday.

It appears that similar to last season when Hilal and Merrikh competed in Mauritania’s Super D1, the guest clubs from Sudan will be party crashers for the rest of the league. For Hilal, a victory in their next match on Sunday against AS Muhanga will confirm top spot for the campaign.
