Ghana Premier League: GoldStars cut Medeama’s lead to two points

Medeama SC’s quest to further tighten their grip on top of the Ghana Premier League table was given a jolt following Wednesday’s loss at Berekum Chelsea.

The Mauve and Yellow succumbed to a 1-2 loss at the Golden City Park against the Blues on Wednesday in the delayed week 30 fixture.

Kelvin Nkrumah opened the scoring in the 12th minute following a fine assist from Salim Adams but Chelsea restored parity through Seidu Abubakar before Jonah Attuguaye netted the decisive winner in the second half.

The result boosts Chelsea’s survival hopes while cutting Medeama’s lead at the top to just two points following Bibiani Gold Stars 2-0 win over Samartex at the Duns Park.

At the Accra Sports Stadium, Hearts of Oak were frustrated by Karela United FC in a goalless draw with the Phobians missing the chance to close the gap on the league leaders.

Elsewhere Nations FC boosted their survival hopes with an important 1-0 away victory over Heart of Lions FC in Kpando.

Dreams FC continued their impressive run with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Bechem United FC at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park to push for a top four finish.

Medeama retain the top spot with 56 points with GoldStars locked up in second on 54 points from 31 games.

Hearts of Oak kept the top four chase intact despite the goalless draw against Karela and they are third on the log with 50 points.
