Zimbabwe: Hardrock FC apologise for stadium violence

Zimbabwe’s top-flight league side Hardrock FC has apologised for the recent ugly scenes that marred their game against Ngezi Platinum Stars FC at Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe on 19 April 2026.

During the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) encounter, Hardrock FC’s steward manhandled Platinum Stars’ supporters.

Sensing the risk of possible Zimbabwe Premier League (ZPL) sanctions, the club has issued an apology via a statement on Monday.

“We take matters of fan safety and welfare with the utmost seriousness. To the supporters affected, we extend our sincere sympathy. No fan should ever feel unsafe while supporting the team they love,” reads the statement.

Hardrock FC has since penalised the steward in question by suspending him.

“As an immediate measure, the steward involved has been suspended pending the outcome of investigations. Hardrock FC is fully cooperating with the Premier Soccer League and has already initiated an internal review to establish the full facts and circumstances surrounding the incident,” adds the statement.

A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media platforms. This has prompted the ZPL to step in on the matter.

In a statement signed by ZPL communications and media liaison officer Kudzai Bare, the league governing body demanded an explanation from Hardrock FC for the incident.

“The League takes such matters seriously and has since requested a detailed report from Hardrock FC to establish the full facts and circumstances surrounding the incident,” said Bare.

“The PSL wishes to reiterate its commitment to ensuring that all football matches are conducted in a safe and secure environment for players, officials, fans and all stakeholders.

“Appropriate action on any acts of misconduct will be taken in line with the League’s rules and regulations once all the necessary information has been reviewed.”
