FIFA U-20 WWC: Malawi include four senior players for Nigeria clash

Malawi under-20 national team coach Maggie Chombo has included four senior players in the squad to face hosts Nigeria on Saturday, 2 May 2026.

The Falconets will host the Young Scorchers in the first leg of the final qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup (FIFA U-20 WWC).

Malawi U20 Women’s National Team head coach Maggie Chombo has named a 20-member squad for the decisive final round of the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria.

Ahead of the away fixture, Chombo named her final 20-member squad travelling party that includes midfielders Leticia Chinyamula, Olivia Phikani, Sarah Mlimbika, and goalkeeper Esther Maulidi. Malawi squad left for Nigeria on Monday, 27 April 2026.

Know four senior players to face Falconets

The four up-and-coming players were part of the Malawi senior team squad that featured in the FIFA Series in Kenya, losing 5-0 to Australia and 2-3 to India earlier in April 2026.

The Young Scorchers will host the return leg of the Under-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers on Saturday, May 9 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The overall winner of the two legs will book a ticket to the 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

The girls for Chombo booked a date with the Falconets after thrashing Guinea-Bissau 5-1 in Lilongwe in February 2026 in the previous qualifying round.
