Zamalek have now drawn their last two matches after The White Castle failed to protect their lead against National Bank, settling for a 2-2 draw in the title phase of the Nile Egyptian League after conceding a stoppage time equalizer on Monday.
Ghana-born Togolese international Yaw Annor was the culprit who denied Zamalek maximum points. Annor scored his 8th goal of the season by following up to head in a rebound after Burkinabe defender Saïdou Simporé initial header attempt was saved by Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Awad.
It was a heartbreaking result for Zamalek who got off to a dream start then appeared to snatch the victory in second-half stoppage time through Seifeddine Jaziri.
However, coach Jose Peseiro will be fuming after his team failed to achieve victory and dropped further behind the pace of rivals Al Ahly and Pyramids FC. Zamalek remain in 3rd place six points back of arch rivals Ahly and seven points back of Pyramids.
In the earlier match on Monday, Petrojet continued to look out of their depth in the title phase after dropping a 0-2 result to Ceramica Cleopatra. Mohamed Reda opened the scoring in the 73rd minute and then set up Mahmoud Zalaka's 82nd-minute goal for Cleopatra, who moved up to 6th place with the victory.
The title phase continues on Thursday when Al Ahly host Al Masry in the only match of the day.
