Jupiler Pro League: Oumar Diakité scores twice in Cercle Brugge win

Ivorian international Oumar Diakité lifted Cercle Brugge to a 2-1 victory on Friday, scoring both goals for the Jupiler Pro League club in a positive result over bottom club FCV Dender.

The loanee from Stade Reims brought his total to six goals on the season as his club continues to dominate the relegation group in Belgium’s top flight. They are undefeated in four matches during this phase of the campaign, and are well out of reach of any relegation danger at this point with two fixtures remaining.

Diakité produced two finishes that showcased his strong instincts in the penalty area on Friday. Receiving a pass from Edan Diop in the 29th minute, the Ivorian put the hosts ahead with a curling effort.

In the 69th minute, the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations champion used his left foot to complete a brace. Guinean international Ibrahim Diakité sent a low pass to find the forward, who quickly turned and doubled the advantage.

A youth product of ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan, Diakité moved to Red Bull Salzburg and spent two seasons with reserve club FC Liefering in Austria’s second division before moving to Reims ahead of the 2023-24 season. After the club were relegated from France’s Ligue 1 following the 2024-25 campaign, he moved on loan to Cercle Brugge.

Diakité making final push for World Cup place in Jupiler Pro League

The Belgian club have an option to purchase the attacker permanently, and it remains to be seen if they will utilize this option. It has been an inconsistent season for Diakité but he continues to remain a part of the Ivory Coast national team. He is making a final push for the Elephants’ 2026 World Cup squad but may miss out due to the depth of the team and his inconsistent form this season.
