‘I can score five’: Binwell Katinji issues bold warning to Zim PSL defenders

Malawian marksman Binwell Katinji has whetted the appetite of the Chicken Inn FC faithful, boldly claiming that he is capable of netting five goals in a single match.

The former Silver Strikers FC forward touted his prowess as a classic “fox-in-the-box” after adding two goals to his season tally over the weekend. The 30-year-old was the hero for the Gamecocks, scoring twice in a 2-1 victory over Dynamos FC on Sunday in a high-stakes Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) encounter.

Katinji adjusting to Zimbabwean football

The intermittent Flames international has now taken his tally to three goals in ten league appearances and insists he is hungry for more. Reflecting on the early stages of his Castle Lager PSL career, Katinji noted that he is finally finding his feet in the Zimbabwean top flight.

“I have scored three goals now, but it was difficult when I was starting out this side. I am now adjusting, and I know what is happening in this league,” Katinji told Chicken Inn media.

He suggested that adapting should not be a hurdle, given his extensive experience across the continent. “I am like a nomad. I have played in the top-flight leagues for my home country and others, including Eswatini and Mozambique,” he added.

The former Civil Service United striker further explained his versatility, noting that he can effectively occupy any advanced position on the pitch as long as he has his eye on the target.

“I can play in any attacking position. When I see the net, there is no doubt I am there. When I see the net and the ball is delivered there, I can even score five goals. It is all about the timing of the runs,” the Malawian added.

The towering forward, who is particularly adept at finishing with his head, is a true journeyman of African football. His career includes notable stints with Malanti Chiefs in Eswatini and Ferroviário de Lichinga in Mozambique between 2021 and 2023.

Chicken Inn return to action

Katinji is expected to lead the Chicken Inn frontline again this coming Sunday when they face Dynamos FC at the iconic Rufaro Stadium in Harare. The Malawian has issued a rallying cry to the club’s supporters to turn up in their numbers for the massive clash.

“I am promising goals to the Chicken Inn fans,” he said. “They should come and support us. We will fight for them.”

The Gamecocks currently occupy eighth position on the log standings, trailing league leaders Scottland FC by seven points.
